Founded in 1957 as a construction
camp for Glen Canyon Dam, Page Arizona has grown to become a full
service vacation resort. The main attraction for visitors to Page
is 186-mile long Lake Powell, which offers
2000 miles of rugged shoreline with swimming, houseboat rentals,
fishing, water skiing, sailing, and scuba diving.
The surrounding desert also
offers some of the most spectacular scenery to be found anywhere on the
Colorado Plateau, and is a major draw for both adventurers, hikers and
nature photographers. We've put together a list of the Page
area's best hiking trails for your convenience.
Antelope Canyon, pictured here, is famous for its sandstone
formations. This section, known as "The Crack," can only
be visited with a Navajo guide. Another section of the canyon
allows hikers to take a self-guided tour. The Paria Wilderness,
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, and Grand Staircase - Escalante
National Monument are also nearby, and offer some of the best
back-country experiences on the Colorado Plateau.
The Colorado River at Lee's Ferry offers world-class
fly fishing, with the average trout measuring 22 inches! Be sure
to visit our Page
Area Photo Gallery for a quick view of what can expect to see
when you include this beautiful area in you Southwest vacation plans.
Visit Lake Powell and no matter which activity you choose, you're sure
to enjoy Page, Arizona -- a full service town with affordable
hotels,
restaurants, boat
and jet ski rentals, grocery stores, auto repair, and guided
tours. Nature photography tip: you'll need either a tripod
or very fast film for taking photos in Antelope Canyon.
