Fantastically eroded shapes -- known as hoodoos -- in dramatic pastel colors, make this national park one of the most beautiful and recognizable in the U.S. No trip to this part of Utah is complete without a visit to Bryce Canyon. A small park by Utah standards, Bryce is actually not a canyon at all, but rather consists of a series of horseshoe-shaped amphitheaters carved into the eastern edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. As this photo illustrates, Bryce "Canyon" is a
nature photographer's dream come true. The photo was made late in
the afternoon just after a summer thunderstorm by photographer Ed
Preston. But great images can
happen almost anytime of day at Bryce. Be sure to visit our Bryce
Canyon Nature Photo Gallery for a preview of the fantastic scenery
you can expect when you include this beautiful national park in your
Southwest vacation plans. You'll find getting around in Bryce Canyon National Park much easier than the early settlers did. Today, visitors can take advantage of modern hotels, and a shuttle is available to deliver you to overlooks and trailheads. To make planning your vacation easier, we've included a complete directory of Bryce Canyon hotels, campgrounds, and great hiking trails both inside and outside of the national park. We also have an area map of Bryce Canyon and lots of visitor information about the park.
